R4 Theme Creator File

Most users stop at backgrounds. But the R4 Theme Creator supports slide shows and seasonal themes.

The R4 hardware exists in a legal grey area (DMCA anti-circumvention). However, creating themes is purely artistic expression. You are not distributing ROMs or copyrighted code. Fan art themes for personal use are globally protected as transformative fair use in most jurisdictions.

| Error | Cause | Solution | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | | Image depth is too high (32-bit vs 16-bit). | Re-export images using "Save as 16-bit BMP" in MS Paint. | | Icons are inverted colors | The R4 reads magenta (255,0,255) as transparent. | Your icon has magenta pixels. Change the magenta to black or use the "Transparency Fix" in the Theme Creator. | | Text is unreadable | You used a dark font on a dark image. | Use the "Outline Text" feature. Even if your font is black, a white 1-pixel outline saves readability. | | Battery shows empty | Animation frame count mismatch. | The Theme Creator defaults to 4 frames. Your DS kernel expects 6. R4 Theme Creator is a Windows application used to design and install custom themes for R4 flashcards (R4 DS) and similar Nintendo DS flashcarts. It lets users create theme packages containing custom backgrounds, icons, font selections, and layout settings that alter the R4 menu interface on the DS.
