Vimukthi Jayasundara’s 2005 film Sulanga Enu Pinisa (The Forsaken Land) is a landmark work of Sri Lankan cinema that earned the prestigious Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film concludes with an act of ambiguous violence. Without spoiling the narrative turn, the ending involves a disappearance and a burial that is also a planting.
