The story follows , a small-town boy from Varanasi, who has been obsessively in love with Zoya since childhood. As they grow up, the class and religious divide (Kundan is a Hindu Brahmin, Zoya is Muslim) complicates their relationship. Zoya moves to Delhi for university and falls in love with Jasjeet , a charismatic student leader. The film takes a sharp turn in the second half, shifting from a whimsical romance to a heavy political drama as Kundan's actions lead to tragic consequences and a path toward redemption.
