When researchers placed oat flakes (another slime mold delicacy) on a wet surface in positions corresponding to cities around Tokyo, then put a large oat flake in the center (representing Tokyo itself), the mold grew into a network strikingly similar to Tokyo’s actual rail system — efficient, redundant, and cost-effective.
