To discuss Pangako Sa ’Yo is to discuss the history of Philippine television in the 21st century. Before this show, local dramas were largely episodic soap operas ( teleseryes were not yet a defined genre). Pangako Sa ’Yo changed the landscape forever, establishing the "teleserye" as a continuing, high-production, serialized drama with cinematic ambitions.
